1140 s Michigan Ave - Chicago - 1892

9:37 PM

This Building still exists and is located in the south Loop community adjacent to the Museum Campus complex on Chicago's lakefront. It started life as a hotel catering to passengers from the nearby Illinois Central station. It then became transient - residential occupancy and started a gradual decline. After having gone thru some rough times the building managed to survive and has even thrived. It was completely rehabbed and converted to single floor upscale condos several years ago. The buildings on either side are long since gone having been replaced by at first by motels and then so-so high rises. I will put up a streetscape of this location showing how it has looked over time.
